Background
After years in the Amazon Fire TV ecosystem, I decided to switch to GoogleTV. Primary drivers were: lack of a gigabit Ethernet connection and, even more important, lack of customizability like custom launchers (Side note: Depending on your hardware and OS version, it is technically possible to run custom launchers on Fire TV but much more complex). So when I heard about the GoogleTV Streamer, which is running stock Android and has a gigabit Ethernet, I ditched my FireTV Cube 3 on marketplace and bought it instead.
The default launcher is nice, but I was looking for a bit more custom and found Projectivy, despite the name it’s not just a launcher for projectors running Android but for all Android TV devices. On the Streamer, no rooting or anything is required: You can just download it from PlayStore and set it up in a way that it’s automatically started instead of the default launcher.
Something that I was missing compared to the official launcher were the nice backdrop images for Movies and TV Shows. Luckily, Projectivy has plugin support.
